Day 3 Yerevan

We walked along one of Yerevan’s nicest streets (Mishots) to the old fruit market. It was a supermarket but still had a small area of dried and candied fruit. We bought some sour cherries, pears, cherry-covered ground nuts and sujouk, which is walnuts covered with hardened grape juice. We visited the Blue Mosque, the only remaining mosque in Yerevan, which is right across from the market. On the walk back we stopped at a hardware store and bought an immersion heat (snake) for less than $1. Things are cheap here. Walking through Yerevan is very pleasant. We love the wide streets and sidewalks shaded by big trees. There are flower stands on almost every corner and many benches and street cafes in case you feel a need for rest and/or nourishment. Since we had already done all the touristy sights 8 years ago, we decided to explore other parts of the city and took a taxi to the Yerevan mall which is a beautiful upscale mall. Bo bought stuff in Zara. The cab fare was only $2, and it was quite a ways outside the city center. For dinner we went to a restaurant recommended in Trip Advisor called Vinograd. We got a bottle of excellent Armenian wine and ordered 2 appetizers – an Armenian cheese plate and taboule. The waitress never came back to ask what we wanted for dinner, which was OK since the appetizers were so huge that we couldn’t possibly have more. Then we walked back and admired the lively night life of Yerevan. It is a city that comes alive at night. Hundreds of outdoor (as well a indoor) cafes and restaurants stay open and full until 1 am. People enjoy life here and you can see and feel it.
